Essential Functions:
A. Comprehensively tend to patients assigned to the Patient Coordinator schedule, which will include the following situations:
1. Complex treatment plans
2. Referrals to other specialists or graduating patients to an adult dentist
3. New patient referrals from general dentists for restorative treatment and/or behavior management
4. New patient emergency appointments
5. Placement of sealants
B. Dental Assisting Functions
1. Preparing and maintaining treatments rooms and equipment including cleaning and
sterilizing instruments and burs, setting up trays, and cleaning treatment rooms.
2. Assisting the dentist in the evaluation and treatment of patients.
3. Assisting the hygienist in the treatment of patients as needed.
4. Documenting exam findings, charting and entering existing and planned treatment.
5. Communicating with patients/parents regarding planned treatment and providing pre- and
post-operative instructions.
6. Taking and developing X-rays.
7. Preparing impressions and/or models and coordinating all aspects of lab cases.
8. Maintaining the stock of all treatment rooms, coordinating with suppliers and ordering
supplies as needed.
9. Maintaining a clean, orderly and safe work environment at all times, following established
protocols.
10. Representing the practice in a professional manner, focusing on the needs of the patients.
11. Working respectfully and cooperatively with management, co-workers, patients, and
vendors.
Objectives:
1. To assure the smooth transition from provider to check out.
2. To assure the quality and safety of all equipment, instruments, and burs.
3. To support the dentist to provide outstanding treatment to patients.
4. To represent the practice to patients in a professional, friendly, and caring manner.
Minimum Education:
High School degree or equivalent and X-ray certification required. Certification in dental
assisting with Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certification preferred.
Minimum Experience:
Experience working in an office setting utilizing computer, telephone, customer service and organizational skills. Understanding patient scheduling and treatment processes. Two years of clinical experience in a dental office.
